OralSedation
About Oral Sedation
For a luxurious dental experience, MINT dentistry is proud to offer many sedation methods to quell your dental phobias and anxieties so you can obtain the sexy teeth you want with minimal discomfort. Our board-certified team of dental professionals suggests oral-conscious sedation for cleanings and advanced procedures to make sure your appointment is less stressful. The oral-conscious method of sedation uses a prescribed medication prior to your arrival for your visit. This method keeps you awake and able to respond to instructions while still at ease. To get more information on sedation dentistry or to find out if you are a candidate, contact our practice in Conroe, TX to schedule your consultation.

Best Candidates
At MINT dentistry, we offer oral-conscious sedation for adults and children who suffer from dentophobia (fear of the dentist). Prior to giving you a prescription for an oral-conscious medication, our team will perform a thorough consultation to determine if you are a good candidate. We will review your medical history, current medications, and any other issues to ensure oral-conscious sedation is safe for you and decide which type will be best for your needs. Oral sedation may not be recommended if you have heart or respiratory problems, you are or may be pregnant, or you had a reaction to benzodiazepines or other anti-anxiety medications.
What to Expect
There are several types of oral-conscious sedation medications that can be used. The type that is prescribed by your board-certified MINT dentistry professional will depend on your anxiety level, your physical health, the procedure you are getting, and the estimated length of your appointment. Your medication prescription will be written during your consultation so you can have it filled at a pharmacy before your appointment. Since you will need to take the medication before arriving, you need to have someone drive you to your appointment. With light sedation, you will remain relaxed but alert. With moderate sedation, you will still be awake, but you may feel like you were asleep because of short-term memory loss. You may fall asleep, but you will be easy to wake up. We will make sure you feel comfortable and safe during your appointment.
Treatment Aftercare
Your recovery from oral-conscious sedation will depend on what medication was prescribed. You will need to arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home from our office and watch you for a few hours. Your dentist will warn you about any potential side effects of your oral-conscious sedation medication. The most common side effects are temporary dizziness, headaches, vomiting, or nausea after oral-conscious sedation. Your risk of vomiting and nausea can be reduced by having a light meal before taking the medication and eating a snack when you get home. If you're worried about symptoms after a few hours, please contact our support staff for information.
The MINT Commitment
For patients who are using dental insurance, our front office will speak to your carrier to clarify your coverage for oral-conscious sedation. Then, we can calculate your personal responsibility. If you do not have insurance, our skilled support staff will explain which payment methods are taken by our practice and we can give you information on low-interest financing to make your sedation and treatment more affordable. If you do not have dental insurance or cannot afford dental treatments and procedures, ask us about the MINT Discount Plan. We look forward to exceeding your expectations.
