NightGuards
About Night Guards
MINT dentistry is popularly known for our cosmetic treatments, but we also want to protect your mouth from damage. Teeth grinding and jaw clenching (also called bruxism) overnight is a common condition, which creates damage to your teeth, gums, and jaw. Although the first symptom is wear or damage to the surface of the teeth, nocturnal bruxism can manifest as symptoms, like loose teeth, frequent headaches, inflammation, plus pain in your jaw and neck. MINT dentistry's staff of board-certified dentists recommends a night guard (oral appliance) to protect your mouth while you sleep. Our night guards are made with high-quality materials with state-of-the-art technology that fits you comfortably while preventing damage from grinding your teeth and clenching your jaw, helping you to achieve a better night’s sleep. Get more information about night guards that are custom made for your needs at MINT dentistry by scheduling a consultation at our practice in Conroe, TX.

Best Candidates
It's important to look for signs that you are clenching your jaw or grinding your teeth while you sleep. You may be a candidate for a night guard if you frequently have headaches upon waking, plus pain, tightness, or swelling along your jaw. Some other symptoms that may suggest the need for a night guard are loose fillings or teeth, worn-down enamel on the tops of your back teeth, tooth sensitivity, and a receding gumline. Teeth grinding and jaw clenching while you sleep are often a symptom of chronic stress; however, you may also have a sleep disorder, allergies, misaligned teeth, or a problem with your temporomandibular joint (TMJ). When your team of dental professionals is diagnosing bruxism, we also try to identify the underlying cause so we can develop the most effective treatment plan.
What to Expect
To diagnose bruxism and determine if you need a night guard, our team will perform a thorough oral health exam. You will be asked to relax in one of our treatment chairs with a pair of MINT sunglasses and Beats headphones while the exam is performed. Once we diagnose a condition requiring an oral appliance, we will get impressions and digital x-rays of your teeth that will be used to design your night guard. We will send this information to a dental lab where your appliance will be crafted with advanced technology from high-quality materials. When your night guard is returned to us, we will schedule a fitting. A member of the MINT dentistry team might make a few adjustments to your guard so it's more comfortable. Your dentist will also talk to you about how to care for your appliance to keep it in great condition for as long as possible.
Treatment Aftercare
To fully benefit from your custom night guard, you have to use it every night or as recommended by our dental professionals. Your guard should minimize or eliminate the symptoms caused by bruxism, but if not, please contact our office so we can address the problem immediately. To avoid problems with your night guard, we recommend that you brush your guard and teeth both before and after you use it. Your night guard should be brought in to every appointment at MINT dentistry so we can make adjustments or repairs if they are needed.
The MINT Commitment
If you are diagnosed with nocturnal bruxism or jaw clenching, part of your costs for a night guard will possibly be paid by your insurance. Someone in our office will contact your insurance company to verify your coverage and benefits. During your first appointment, we will be able to estimate your costs. To help make your treatment more affordable, our office takes numerous payment methods, including low-interest medical financing. We are dedicated to helping all patients in Conroe, TX get great dental care. For patients who do not have PPO dental insurance, our team can tell you more about the MINT Discount Plan.
