About Tooth Extractions
Although MINT dentistry's team of board-certified professionals focus on saving and preserving your teeth, you may still need a dental extraction. Simple extractions remove a tooth that is visible above the gumline. Simple extractions are generally performed for a decayed or damaged tooth that cannot be repaired. Surgical extractions remove one or more teeth that have not erupted above the gumline. Extractions using the surgical technique are commonly performed to remove the wisdom teeth and impacted teeth that do not have enough room to fit into your bite. Whatever the reason is for your need for a dental extraction, MINT dentistry's experienced team will give you professional care. MINT dentistry in Conroe, TX offers several sedation methods, such as nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation, to help keep you calm and comfortable during your procedure. Contact our team to get more information or to schedule an exam to help us decide if you need an extraction using either the simple or surgical technique.

Best Candidates
If a tooth has been damaged or broken, we will first try to fix it with a filling or crown. However, if these efforts cannot successfully save the tooth, you may be a candidate for tooth extraction. You may also need a dental extraction to remove a tooth or teeth that do not have enough space to fit correctly in your smile. This includes your third molars, commonly called wisdom teeth, which begin to erupt from the gumline in the late teen years. At a certain point, baby teeth can be extracted if they haven't fallen out on their own so they don't block the permanent teeth. Before you get Invisalign® or traditional metal braces, an extraction may be needed to create space for others as the treatment aligns your bite.
What to Expect
Extractions are performed in our modern facility with anesthesia to make sure you are comfortable throughout the procedure. We may recommend adding a sedation method, depending on the extent of the procedure and whether you have any dental anxieties. Before the procedure is initiated, we will give you time to settle into a massaging treatment chair in one of our well-appointed procedure rooms. Once you are ready, we will start the procedure. In a simple extraction, one of our highly qualified dentists will use advanced tools and techniques to gently remove the tooth. Surgical extractions will start with a MINT dentist making incisions in your gums to reach the tooth. In some cases, the tooth may be broken into smaller pieces to make it easier to remove. Once the tooth is removed, your dentist will finish by closing the incision.
Treatment Aftercare
Depending on the method of sedation used during your extraction, you may need to ask a friend or family member to pick you up. A MINT dentistry professional will give you specific instructions to speed your recovery. The instructions will vary, depending on the complexity of your extraction; however, most patients prefer to stick to soft, cool food for at least a few days. Inflammation is common after an extraction, which can be treated with over-the-counter pain medication and cold compresses. When appropriate, we may write you a prescription for antibiotics or pain medication. In addition to any recommended follow-up appointments, you should continue to schedule dental exams and cleanings at our office in Conroe, TX so our team can help maintain the health of your teeth.
The MINT Commitment
A dental extraction is usually covered partially by dental insurance, but your coverage will vary for any sedation needed. After your consultation, our team will speak to your insurance provider to understand your coverage and then calculate your out-of-pocket costs. If you do not have dental insurance, we can help you understand how you can more easily afford your dental care with the MINT Discount Plan, medical financing, and accepting several methods of payment.
